With the coming holiday season on the horizon, it could be time to get in shape for your getaway pictures that will be shared all over your Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat accounts.
In Singapore, people spend so much of their time on gadgets and have become so accustomed to using their mobile phones and social media to connect with family, friends and their peers.1 This makes it logical for you to also use your mobile phones to keep fit and healthy.
Here are four mobile applications you can make use of to start shedding the pounds or pumping your abs.
Like its name suggests, this mobile app requires you to spend just 7 minutes for every workout. The trick is to strategically plan the exercises such that you train a different muscle groups every 30 seconds. When you move on the next muscle group, the previous muscle group gets to rest. This makes the workout extremely condensed and effective, and has proven to be effective in reducing body fat and improving flexibility.
This mobile app is also ideal for people who can’t afford the time to plan an extensive workout or the hit the gym regularly.
What’s better – all you need is a chair and a wall, which you can get pretty much anywhere. The program mostly trains the whole body using your body weight as resistance.
7 MINUTE is one the most popular apps around using this scientific and very convenient exercise concept. It comes with an in-app calendar that tracks your workout progress, and it allows you to choose specific muscle groups like the core or quads that you want to focus on.
This app has repeatedly received acclamations for its clarity in instructions, sleek designs and for presenting a personalised training experience.
Choose between exercises catering to different preferences such as “Get Lean”, “Get Toned”, “Get Strong” and “Get Focused”. It is great for both men and women of all fitness levels – beginner, intermediate and advanced levels. There are over 100 workouts planned by professionals, among which you can choose the level you’re comfortable with, the amount of guidance you want and the equipment available.
Furthermore, you can create four week-long fitness programmes that keeps you on track on your fitness goals. With the variety of exercises and detailed put into this app, you will never get bored of working out.
There’s an alternative app if you’re more into running, you can download the NIKE + Running Club App that will track the distance, pace, and GPS route of your runs.
This app was designed by the Health Promotion Board for Singaporeans to better track their health profiles and motivate themselves to work out with fellow Singaporeans.
It is especially suitable for Singaporeans because it is Singapore-centric. For example, the calorie counter contains Singaporean food options, a feature you will struggle to find on global apps, and it also notifies you of health-related events happening in Singapore.
Using it allows you to take part in challenges such as the National Steps Challenge and other nationally supported and/or organised events. What’s more, you can help your family member who is a non-smartphone participant track his/her steps too, as well as allow them to participate in events.
The app also allows you to track your calorie intake, find nearby healthy eateries, gyms, badminton courts and events. It’s a pretty interesting app you can take some time to explore.
