DO WOMEN NEED PROTECTION

YES, and not necessarily from the sexual molester, the errant spouse, an abusive in-law, or the office lecher! More than that, we’re talking about protection against what can happen when women least expect it, which can be anything from the sudden occurrence of breast cancer, pregnancy complications or injury from accidents or assaults.

A woman may be in the prime of her life and planning to get married. She may be looking forward to early retirement. The family breadwinner. A single mother struggling to make ends meet. Or, she might be a successful career woman.

Regardless of which part of the world a woman lives in, her race or religion, age or size, there is no telling when and where disease or permanent disability can strike.

Whatever and wherever a woman is, this article is specially written for her - life has a way of dealing unexpected blows, but it doesn’t mean that women should leave their fate to chance in the hope that faith will see them through.

Today’s women are more independent and often enjoy successful careers. Many have to juggle time and energy to strike a balance in their relationships with family, friends, colleagues and bosses. Life has so much in store for them and they need to ensure they are adequately protected financially.

They are exposed to the risk of diseases such as breast and cervical cancer, and may also face risks at childbirth or pregnancy complications. Therefore, besides health and maternity protection, women need to ensure they save enough for “rainy days” or catastrophes.

Instead of solely relying on banks that pay nominal interest on their savings, women should seek extra protection in the form of life insurance coverage.

Insuring Against Adversity
The best form of insurance against potential risks is a life plan or living benefit policy available from all reputable life insurance companies. Most insurance companies offer basic life insurance savings plans and riders for women that can be attached to an existing life or endowment plan.

A whole life plan is a life insurance policy that provides coverage against major diseases, disability and death. There are also life plans specially designed for women.

These plans cover cancer of the breast, cervix, uterus, ovary, fallopian tubes and vagina/vulva. They also provide maternity benefits and cover expenses such as gynecologist and obstetrician consultations. Besides these medical benefits, policyholders can make claims for maternity expenses.

Besides sickness, health protection and maternity benefits, some plans are designed for women to encourage them to save. Speak to your AIA agent about AIA Lifestyle Savings Plan which comes with attractive features like maternity benefits, comprehensive cancer rider, and most importantly cash payments, in addition to the life insurance coverage that increases with bonuses. Policyholders can use the cash bonuses* paid out upon the maturity of their policies to go on holiday, refurbish their homes or even buy a new wardrobe.

Alternatively, policyholders can reinvest the cash bonuses given out at the stipulated period. With interest earned on the coupon payments, the lump sum received at the end of the maturity period will be higher.

*As the bonus rates used for the benefits illustrated are not guaranteed, the actual benefits payable may vary according to future performance of the Life Fund.
